At Leeds Trinity University, as part of the Leeds Digital Festival 2019, Florian Thalhofer will be running a workshop on Korsakow filmmaking. The workshop will be composed of an introduction to the philosophy of Korsakow, a showcase of projects and a practical session on the software. The workshop is open to everyone.

Aug 27 – 31 I was invited to Minsk to give a workshop for documentary filmmakers. This workshop was part of a series of four workshops that took place in Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The two best projects of each workshop are invited to Fankfurt to pitch their projects in October.

Just returned from a short trip to Brighton. I was invited by Crossover Labs and Sheffield Doc/Fest to give a one-day Korsakow workshop at the Lighthouse. The Crossover Labs guys had the brilliant idea to do a series of workshops with the leading softwares for creating interactive films. I am happy to see Korsakow among these softwares, with its unique angle. Before explaining the software, I talked quite a bit about the philosophy behind Korsakow, in contrast to the hyper linear approach of story telling in linear film and the multi linear approach of most other nonlinear story telling softwares. I made use of the combined brain-power of the workshop’s participants to understand what a story is. For quite a while I am now struggling with the question if a Korsakow film is a “story” at all. The phenomenon of a Korsakow film is for sure a narration. But is it a story?

Florian is in Olomuc, a small town in Czech Republic to help filmmakers to develop their idea for a scientific documentary and give them more understanding for how narratives can be built for the internet. He tries to help to make the right decisions for the future.

The training program Camp 4 Science is a part of industry program of Academia Film Olomouc that currently ranks among top European festivals focusing on science documentaries.

+++ Was heißt hier Ausbildung, wie ist ein Studium der Materie Zeit denkbar und gibt ist so etwas wie eine Begabung dafür, diese Materie zu bearbeiten? +++ Woher kommen die Menschen und ihre Motivationen, diesen Weg zu wählen, und wohin gehen sie? +++ Wie erhebt man seine Stimme in den Medien, ab wann gilt man als Autor? +++ In welchem Rahmen lässt sich ein neues Sprechen im Film überhaupt noch denken, oder kommt es darauf an, alles bereits Gesagte noch einmal zu deklinieren und zu zitieren? +++ Wie verbreitet man die Besonderheit seiner eigenen Sprache und wie entgeht man der Deutungshoheit einer gleichmacherischen Kuratie? +++ Kunsthochschule oder Filmakademie, Curriculum oder Projektstudium, im Inland oder im Ausland? Zum zweiten Mal habe ich dieses Jahr das Vergnügen, mich mit einer kleinen Gruppe auf Spurensuche entlang der ehemaligen Mauer um Berlin zu begeben. Dieses Jahr zusammen mit der Theaterpädagogin Sahra Jasinszczak vom Jungen DT.

Die 155 km lange Reise an den Rändern Berlins findet mit dem Fahrrad statt und dauert sechs Tage. Unterwegs spricht das Expeditionsteam mit Menschen, die im Grenzgebiet leben oder sich dort aufhalten , und befragt sie nach ihrer Erinnerung. Die Interviews werden mit der Kamera und einem Aufnahmegerät festgehalten und nach der Expedition gesichtet. Das Material wird zu einem Panoramablick auf das Vergangene und die Gegenwart verdichtet. Neben den Filminterviews notiert das Team persönliche Eindrücke, die zusammen mit den Interviews zu einer Bühnenpräsentation zusammengefügt werden.

Die MAUEREXPEDITION findet dieses Jahr zum dritten Mal statt. In diesem Jahr das erste Mal als Kooperatin von junges DT dem THEATER AN DER PARKAUE und dem Medienkompetenzzentrum meredo.de.

EsoDoc is a EU’s Media Plus training initiative that encourages documentary film makers to work in the areas of human rights, social justice and environmental protection. ESoDoc offers three 1-week sessions held over a 6-month period, during which participants develop a documentary film projects.
I am invited as a teacher, to meet up with a fantastic group of people from all over Europe. The first session of this workshop takes place in a christian monastery (the second time I am in christian monastery, this year). It is a cool place in North-Italy, in the middle of the mountains.
